Ingredients
- 15 to 16 ounces of high quality Pretzels
- 1 cup Butter, unsalted
- 1 cup Brown Sugar, packed
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp Salt
- 20 ounces Dark Chocolate, chopped fine
- Holiday Sprinkles, or Candy Canes chopped for topping
Instructions
FIRST STEP:
Preheat the oven to 400*, Line a baking tray with parchment paper
Lay out the pretzels or pretzel sticks on the parchment covered baking tray. Be sure to have an even layer, it does not have to cover the entire sheet as you want some of the brown sugar bark in between the pretzel pieces
In a pan over medium high heat, combine the brown sugar, salt and butter and melt together. Bring to a boil and boil for 4 to 5 minutes. Stir constantly, the mix will thicken as it cooks
Once the mix is entirely melted, remove from the heat after the boiling cycle and stir in the vanilla
SECOND STEP:
Pour this caramel mixture over the top of the pretzels that have been arranged on the tray
Place the tray into the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes
While the tray is in the oven, place the chopped dark chocolate into a microwave safe bowl and heat on 30 second intervals until the chocolate is melted and smooth after stirring between cycles
Remove the tray from the oven and set aside to cool for 1 to 2 minutes
Carefully pour the melted chocolate over the caramel and pretzels, ensuring an even layer by carefully spreading the chocolate with an offset knife
While the chocolate is still wet, top with desired sprinkles or candy pieces
THIRD STEP:
Place the tray into the refrigerator to set and cool for at least 4 hours or overnight
When ready to serve, cut into squares and place on a decorative dish
Enjoy!
