Ingredients:
For the Cake:
1 box (15.25 ounces) white or yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box, typically eggs, water, and oil)
1 box (3 ounces) strawberry-flavored gelatin (Jello)
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup cold water
Ice cubes
For the Topping:
1 package (8 ounces) whipped topping (such as Cool Whip), thawed
Fresh strawberries for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Cake:
Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the cake mix box.
Prepare the cake batter according to the package instructions, using the eggs, water, and oil.
Bake:
Bake the cake in a 9×13-inch baking pan according to the instructions on the cake mix box.
Cool:
Allow the cake to cool for a few minutes after removing it from the oven.
Prepare the Jello Mixture:
In a bowl, dissolve the strawberry Jello in 1 cup of boiling water.
Add 1/2 cup of cold water and stir until well combined.
Place the bowl in the refrigerator or set it over a bowl of ice water to cool the Jello mixture but do not let it set.
Poke Holes in the Cake:
Use the end of a wooden spoon or another similar tool to poke holes evenly across the entire cake.
Pour Jello Mixture Over the Cake:
Carefully pour the cooled (but not set) Jello mixture over the entire cake, making sure it fills the holes.
Chill:
Place the cake in the refrigerator to allow the Jello to set and the cake to cool completely.
Top with Whipped Topping:
Once the cake is completely cooled and the Jello is set, spread the whipped topping over the top of the cake.
Garnish and Serve:
Optionally, garnish the cake with fresh sliced strawberries.
Slice and serve the Strawberry Jello Poke Cake chilled.
Notes:
Experiment with different flavors of Jello or use a mix of flavors for added variety.
You can also add fresh berries between the cake and whipped topping for extra fruity goodness.
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator.
