Ingredients

  • 2½ lbs (1.1 kg) beef stew meat, cut into cubes
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 2 tbsp water (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the diced onion in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Add the beef cubes on top of the onions.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic, thyme, rosemary, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour the sauce evenly over the beef.
  5. Cover and cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours, until the beef is fork-tender.
  6. For a thicker gravy, mix cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Stir it into the slow cooker during the last 20–30 minutes of cooking.
