INGREDIENTS
-
1 large head green cabbage
-
1 lb ground beef (or ½ beef + ½ pork)
-
1/2 cup uncooked white rice
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, minced

-
1 tbsp brown sugar (optional, for sweetness)
-
1 tsp paprika
-
Juice of 1/2 lemon or splash of vinegar (for brightness)
INSTRUCTIONS
1️⃣ Prepare the cabbage:
Boil a large pot of water. Core the cabbage and gently peel off the leaves as they soften (about 1–2 minutes each). Set aside 10–12 large leaves.
2️⃣ Make the filling:
In a bowl, combine ground meat, uncooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt & pepper.
3️⃣ Roll it up:
Place 2–3 tablespoons of filling on each cabbage leaf. Fold the sides and roll up tightly like a burrito.
4️⃣ Sauce it:
In a saucepan, combine tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar (optional), paprika, and lemon juice. Simmer for 5 minutes.
5️⃣ Cook the rolls:
Place cabbage rolls seam-side down in a large baking dish or pot. Pour sauce over top. Cover with foil or lid.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1.5–2 hours, or simmer on stovetop for same time until tender.
