Cheesy Ground Beef & Potato Casserole

🥔 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 500g ground beef

  • 4–5 medium potatoes (thinly sliced)

  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)

  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)

  • 1 cup heavy cream or milk

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup sour cream (optional, for extra creaminess)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning

  • 2 tbsp oil or butter

  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions (for garnish)

  1. Preheat Oven
    Preheat to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish.

  2. Cook the Beef
    Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
    Add onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
    Add ground beef, salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano.
    Cook until browned and fully done. Drain excess fat if needed.

  3. Prepare the Potatoes
    Slice potatoes thinly (about 3–4 mm thick).
    Lightly season with a little salt and pepper.

  4. Layer the Casserole

    • First layer: half of the potatoes

    • Second layer: half of the beef mixture

    • Add some cream and a spoon of sour cream

    • Sprinkle mozzarella & cheddar

    • Repeat layers

  5. Bake
    Cover with foil and bake for 35–40 minutes.
    Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly.

  6. Garnish & Serve
    Sprinkle chopped green onions on top.
    Let rest 10 minutes before slicing.
