INGREDIENTS:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup milk
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

PREHEAT OVEN:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
MAKE THE BATTER:
In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
COMBINE DRY INGREDIENTS:
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Add dry mixture to the wet ingredients alternately with milk, starting and ending with the dry mix. Stir until just combined.
POUR AND LAYER:
Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the brown sugar (and walnuts if using) over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top and smooth it out. Sprinkle the rest of the brown sugar mixture evenly over the top.
BAKE:
Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
COOL AND SERVE:
Let the coffee cake cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
