Q & A (Because This Feels Suspicious)
Q: Does this really count as “poached”?
A: Yes. The egg cooks gently in hot water without direct oil — same principle, different heat source.
Q: Why hot water instead of cold?
A: Hot water helps the egg start cooking immediately and keeps the whites tender.
Q: Do I need vinegar?
A: Nope. The ramekin keeps the egg together, so vinegar isn’t needed.
Q: Why are my whites a little wispy?
A: Very fresh eggs give the cleanest shape. Older eggs tend to spread more.
Q: Can I cook more than one at a time?
A: Absolutely — just don’t overcrowd and keep ramekins level.
Q: Can I make these ahead?
A: Yes!
-
Slightly undercook
-
Chill in cold water
-
Reheat in hot water for 30–45 seconds
Q: What’s best to serve them on?
A:
-
Toast or sourdough
-
Avocado toast
-
English muffins
-
Breakfast bowls
-
Salads (they’re elite on greens)
Q: Why did my yolk overcook?
A:
-
Ramekin too shallow
-
Cooked too long
-
Air fryer runs hot (check early the first time)
