🍞 Air Fryer Bread Pudding

Ingredients (serves 3–4)

  • 3 cups day-old bread, cubed
(brioche, challah, or white bread work best)

  • 2 large eggs

  • ¾ cup milk (or half-and-half for richer)

  • ¼ cup heavy cream (optional but recommended)

  • ⅓ cup brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 2 tbsp melted butter (plus more for greasing)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)

  • Pinch salt

Optional add-ins:

  • Raisins or chopped dates

  • Chocolate chips

  • Chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

1️⃣ Prep

  1. Lightly butter a small air-fryer-safe baking dish (6–7 inch).

  2. Add bread cubes to the dish.

2️⃣ Make the custard

  1. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugars, butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

  2. Pour evenly over the bread.

  3. Gently press bread down so it absorbs the custard.

  4. Rest 10 minutes (important for a custardy center).

3️⃣ Air fry

  1. Preheat air fryer to 170°C / 340°F.

  2. Cover loosely with foil.

  3. Air fry 12 minutes.

  4. Remove foil.

  5. Air fry another 6–8 minutes until top is golden and crisp.

4️⃣ Serve

  • Rest 5 minutes.

  • Serve warm.

Top with:

  • Powdered sugar

  • Warm maple syrup

  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream 😌

Q & A

Q: Why cover with foil first?

A: It lets the center set gently before the top browns.

Q: How do I know it’s done?

A:

  • Top is golden

  • Center jiggles slightly but isn’t wet

  • Knife comes out mostly clean

Q: Can I use fresh bread?

A: Yes—toast it lightly first so it absorbs custard properly.

Q: Can I make it dairy-free?

A: Yes. Use coconut milk or almond milk and dairy-free butter.

Q: Why is mine dry?

A: Too much bread or cooked too long uncovered. Bread pudding should be soft and moist inside.

Q: Can I reheat it?

A: Yes—air fry at 150°C / 300°F for 3–4 minutes.

Q: Want extra crispy top?

A: Sprinkle 1 tsp sugar on top before the final air-fry stage.
