Ingredients (Serves 8–10)
-
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
-
120–150 g cooked ham, thinly sliced
-
1½ cups shredded cheese (Gruyère, mozzarella, or mild feta blend)
-
1–2 tbsp Dijon mustard or herbed cream cheese
-
1 tbsp olive oil
-
1 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
-
1 tsp fresh thyme or rosemary, finely chopped
-
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
-
Black pepper, to taste
-
Sesame seeds or nigella seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Preheat Oven
Preheat to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper. -
Prepare the Pastry
Roll out one puff pastry sheet. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard or herbed cream cheese evenly. -
Layer Fillings
Arrange ham slices over the pastry. Sprinkle cheese evenly, then add oregano, thyme/rosemary, and black pepper. -
Top & Seal
Place the second puff pastry sheet on top. Gently press and roll lightly to seal layers. -
Cut Tree Shapes
Cut the pastry into triangles (about 2–3 cm wide at the base). Insert a wooden skewer or rosemary sprig at the base to resemble a tree trunk. -
Create Branches
Make horizontal cuts on both sides of each triangle, leaving the center intact. Twist each strip alternately to form branches. -
Egg Wash & Garnish
Brush with beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame or nigella seeds if desired. -
Bake
Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
