Ham & Cheese Puff Pastry Trees

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

  • 4–6 slices ham (thinly sliced)

  • ¾–1 cup cheese, shredded or thinly sliced

    • Gruyère, Swiss, cheddar, or mozzarella work well

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • Optional:

    • Dijon mustard or honey mustard

    • Black pepper, garlic powder, or Italian seasoning

    • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (for topping)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Prepare the pastry

    • Roll out the puff pastry slightly on a floured surface.

    • (Optional) Spread a thin layer of mustard over the pastry.

  3. Layer fillings

    • Lay ham evenly over the pastry.

    • Sprinkle cheese evenly on top.

  4. Cut into strips

    • Cut the pastry lengthwise into strips about ¾–1 inch wide.

  5. Shape the trees

    • Take one strip and fold it back and forth in a zigzag pattern, starting wide at the bottom and narrowing toward the top to form a tree shape.

    • Insert a wooden skewer or pretzel stick through the center to hold the shape.

  6. Egg wash & season

    • Brush lightly with egg wash.

    • Sprinkle with seasoning or seeds if desired.

  7. Bake

    • Place on baking sheet and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.

  8. Cool slightly & serve

    • Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.


Serving Ideas

  • Serve with honey mustard, cranberry sauce, or cheese dip

  • Great as an appetizer, brunch item, or kids’ holiday snack
