🛒 Ingredients

Base Layers:

  • 1 (10–12 oz) bag tortilla chips (scoop style or broken slightly for layering)

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix

  • 1/2 cup water

Middle Layers:

  • 1 can (15 oz) refried beans (optional, depending on preference)

  • 1 cup guacamole (store-bought or homemade)

  • 1 ½ cups sour cream

  • 1 cup salsa or chopped tomatoes with a bit of juice drained

  • 1 cup sliced jalapeños or bell peppers (your choice)

Top Layers:

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 large avocado, diced

  • 1 cup chopped fresh tomatoes

  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)

  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions (optional)

🧑‍🍳 Instructions

1. Cook the Ground Beef:

  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked.

  • Drain the fat.

  • Add taco seasoning and water, simmer until thickened (about 5 minutes). Let it cool slightly.

2. Layer in a Large Clear Bowl (Trifle Bowl or Glass Salad Bowl):

Start from bottom to top:

  1. Tortilla chips – Add a layer of slightly crushed chips.

  2. (Optional) Refried beans – Spread a layer over the chips if using.

  3. Guacamole – Spread evenly.

  4. Salsa or tomatoes – Add a layer of chunky salsa or chopped tomatoes.

  5. Sour cream – Spread carefully over the salsa.

  6. Bell peppers or jalapeños – For crunch and spice.

  7. Taco-seasoned beef – Add evenly and press lightly.

  8. Another layer of sour cream – Adds moisture between meat and cheese.

  9. Shredded cheese – Generous layer.

  10. Avocado – Dice and sprinkle on top.

  11. Tomatoes – Add chopped fresh tomatoes.

  12. (Optional) Sprinkle cilantro and/or green onions for garnish.

3. Chill (Optional):

  • Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes before serving for best flavor blending.

4. Serve:

  • Serve with extra tortilla chips on the side for scooping.

  • Can also be served with small plates and spoons.

📝 Tips:

  • Want it vegetarian? Skip the meat and double the beans or add black beans.

  • Spice it up? Add chopped jalapeños or hot salsa.

  • Make ahead? Assemble all layers except the avocado and tomatoes. Add those just before serving to keep them fresh.
