Ingredients

  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 10.5 oz condensed cream of bacon soup
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup real bacon bits
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 8 oz buttery homestyle flavour instant mashed potato mix

Topping

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend
  • 1/4 cup real bacon bits

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F.
  2. Dump the ground beef into a large saute pan over medium-high heat.
  3. Crumble the ground beef well.
  4. Add the diced onions to the pan with the ground beef while it’s cooking.
  5. Stir well and continue cooking.
  6. Once the ground beef is fully cooked, drain the grease from the pan and reduce the heat to medium-low.
  7. Add the cream of bacon soup and ketchup to the pan and stir well.
  8. Add the real bacon bits, shredded cheese, salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder to the pan.
  9. Stir until all of the ingredients are fully combined.
  10. Dump the ground beef mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  11. Prepare the instant mashed potatoes according the directions on the package.
  12. Spread the mashed potatoes on top of the ground beef mixture in the baking dish.
  13. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the mashed potatoes.
  14. Sprinkle the real bacon bits on top of the cheese.
  15. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 25 minutes.
  16. Remove the dish from the oven and leave the casserole to sit for a few minutes before scooping and serving.
